Rage, My Darling! Rage - A Duncan Kane Fanmix
1. Red Right Ankle - The Decemberists

This is the story of your red right ankle.
Like a story, once upon a time lived the Fab Four (Duncan, Lilly, Logan and Veronica). They had a connection like no other and amidst the champagne limo parties, laughter and love things crumbled around them but nothing shook them until Duncan's sister, Lilly, was tragically murder. The glue that kept them all together began to fall apart when all once lived completing each other.

Before Lilly's death, Duncan is told that Veronica - his first and only love - is his sister and as a instant reaction he ceases communication with her and the people around him.

Doesn't feel like being positive all the time
Doesn't sit still, doesn't look well

Medicated, Duncan deals with Lilly's death and still being in love with Veronica. Or not.

Duncan looks for reasons just to survive. He finds Meg.

Well where are you now?
Inevitably - even being his best of friends - Logan abandons him to deal with his own crumbling situation. In his silence and inability to process the situation around him, he runs away.
6. Duncan - Sarah Slean

If this is all we've got to fight for
Rage, my darling! Rage!
Duncan good for you!
Sad but on your way
Well the army never turned his crank
But love sure made him brave
And the song that clearly inspired this fanmix. In the climax of it all, Duncan is just surviving and not living. He's just found out that Logan and Veronica are together and, more than just betrayed, what is there left for him? Love - one he feels is unrequited or wrong - is all he has left. He loved so deeply and madly he nearly lost his mind, indeed.
7. Lucky - Bif Naked
The first time we made love, I, I wasn't sober.
And you told me you loved me over and over.
How could I ever, love another.
And I miss you everyday...
The events of Shelly Pomroy's End of the Year party are revealed. Both young lovers drugged, Duncan slept with Veronica. In the realization of thinking he had slept with his sister he ran away leaving Veronica, with no memory of the night they had spent together, thinking she had been raped the morning after.

It started out with a kiss

He wonders how things fell apart so quickly.
9. Reunion - Stars

During the summer, he starts to rebuild his life starting with his relationship with Veronica.
10. Lust - Tori Amos
She prays for a prankster
and lust in the marriage bed
and he waits till she can give
and he waits and he waits
Things are finally starting to come together for him. He's with Veronica, but then again he fears he's not really with Veronica.
11. How To Save A Life - The Fray
Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came
Again with having relationships that are just not complete. After Logan's house is burnt to the ground, Duncan invites him to live with him. Things aren't the same. They just coexist.
12. Make This Go On Forever - Snow Patrol
The last girl and the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you told me to look past everything I have ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love
He learns his ex-girlfriend Meg is pregnant with his child and it seals the deal that nothing lasts forever. He can't go back and he can't make things right.
13. Sick Cycle Carousel - Lifehouse

I tried to chase you down
I tried to see how low I can get down to the ground
I tried to earn my way
I tried to tame this mind
You better believe that I tried to beat this
Meg dies and he's left fighting for the custody of his daughter. For the sake of his child, he decides to take her away for good instead of leaving the baby in the hands of Meg's psychotic parents. This requires leaving everything else he has ever loved behind. Including Veronica. Including the ever-absent Logan.
14. Too Late - Fisher
And it’s too late
to think of what I’ve left behind
- dreams that have faded from view
Too late – too late
I’ve burned all my bridges with you
and I can’t walk on water
Operation take baby Lilly has already started and it's time for Duncan to leave Veronica forever. It's too late to turn back.
15. Cathedrals - Jump, Little Children
In the cathedrals of New York and Rome
There is a feeling that you should just go home
And spend a lifetime finding out just where that is
Though Duncan is now away, trying to create a life for himself and his child, he's lost his true home among Lilly, Logan and Veronica. There is only moving forward and there is only now.

Thank you for the utterly awesome comments. I love my music taste too - obviously! And yes, rock the Duncan love. Word. There is far too little Duncan love and Teddy Dunn love out there.

And I agree that it's past time for a Duncan mix. Nothing against Logan/Veronica (although they're not my ship), but do we really need a new L/V mix every day? I don't think so.

As for ships, I think I'm one of those people who can find way to love or ship almost anyone. I do love Logan/Veronica, but really there's plenty of mixes out there (yes, like every day). And obviously by my header I kinda love Duncan/Veronica. Then there's the bit of me that wishes the boys would dump Veronica and hook up or just have one awesome threesome. Because they all balance each other.
Sigh. This is why I fear for season three. The lack of my dear DK.

It's not that I don't see the Logan/Veronica, or appreciate why people love them, they just don't do anything for me aside from the fact that I do enjoy the snappy banter/bicker thing. I've always liked Duncan/Veronica more, although my favorite ship (which is never gonna happen) is Veronica/Weevil, and Mac/Cassidy before...well, just before.
